Minister Naď pays homage to all veterans by taking on Mt Ďumbier and commemorates Gen Štefánik's legacy

Defence Minister Jaroslav Naď and Deputy Defence Minister Marian Majer will participate in the 3rd Veteran Ascent of Mt Ďumbier, the highest peak of the Low Tatra Mountains, to pay their respects to all veterans. At the Slovak National Uprising Memorial located next to the M. R. Štefánik Chalet, they will pay homage to M. R. Štefánik and all the heroes and WW2 soldiers who lost their lives in liberating Slovakia. They will be joined in this hiking trip by MOD officials, military and civilian staff.
Defence Minister Jaroslav Naď said: “This year, too, we pay homage to one of our nation's most prominent personalities – Gen Štefánik and all veterans, whether it be WW2 veterans or contemporary veterans, who performed or still perform their duties on missions and operations abroad.“ He added that this an excellent opportunity to raise awareness of the public and young people about topical issues of society-wide importance.
This year's 3rd Veteran Ascent of Mt Ďumbier coincides the 141st anniversary of M. R. Štefánik's birthday. The hiking event is organised by the MOD's Human Resources Department in line with the SVK Public Health Authority guidelines. The event will start at 08:00 on Saturday 26 June 2021 at the parking lot in front of the Trangoška Chalet.
