The MOD Accommodation Agency (BARMO) has installed public-access automated external defibrillators (AEDs) at the entrances to its hostels in Bratislava, Martin, Trenčín and Žilina. According to Director of BARMO Branislav Ilkovič, the devices are simply to operate by lay rescuers without previous specialist training. The AED provides lifesaving defibrillation to victims of sudden cardiac arrest still before the ambulance service arrives.
Director of BARMO Branislav Ilkovič said: “By installing the AEDs, we continue to raise first aid standards at our sites. When installing the devices, we made sure they would be readily available to our guests and staff, as well as to the public at large.”
Appreciating the live-saving initiative, Defence Minister Jaroslav Naď said: “We at the Ministry of Defence are trying to look at things through the lens of bringing real benefits to our country and its people. Although I hope the defibrillators will not have to be used, I am immensely pleased they are here to bring aid and save lives, should such an emergency incident occur.”
